Development Coordinator
Sally Velez
Sally believes that life is a journey, and every experience we have is meant to shape us and help us grow. As a military spouse, she understands the challenges that military spouses face, particularly underemployment and unemployment. Dog Tags' focus on assisting veterans, military spouses, and caregivers find who they are after and during service aligns closely with her values, which is what drew her to Dog Tag.
As the Development Coordinator, Sally's role complements that of the Chief Development Officer. She secures, tracks, and stewards the funding needed to meet or exceed annual philanthropic goals and implement philanthropic programs. She also manages the back-of-house/behind-the-scenes development systems.
Prior to coming to Dog Tag, Sally was a Blue Star Families DEPLOY Fellow, where she focused on how frequent relocations impact military families. During her time as a DEPLOY Fellow, she moderated a childcare panel at ADC, participated in a conference on mental health and military children, and attended the signing of Domestic Employees Teleworking Overseas (DETO) at the White House.
Sally holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and History from Arizona State University, Tempe. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Library Science with a concentration in Archival Studies from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.
When she is not at work, Sally likes to spend time with her family and friends. She particularly enjoys reading, traveling, trying new foods, watching her children play hockey, watching Broadway shows, and laughing.
Sally's favorite baked good is the Dog Tag chocolate zucchini bread.
