Army Veteran

Michael Matthews

Michael Matthews is an army veteran, a graduate of Montgomery College, and The Catholic University of America. When he’s not enjoying energetic evenings at the playground with his daughter Luna, he’s remotely completing architectural drawings, and various other tasks relative to that scope of work.

Michael was born and raised in Baltimore MD. In June 1998, at the age of 22, Michael decided to enlist in the United States Army. After completing initial entry training, he would serve as an automotive mechanic. His first assignment was with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, NY. Fort Drum is where he would be stationed for the majority of his military career. While assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, Michael deployed to Iraq twice, Afghanistan, and Bosnia. Michael’s other overseas assignments include Honduras and Korea. While stateside, his assignments were: at the Army Ordnance Schools and Center at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, Fort Gregg Adams, and Fort Drum, NY.

In 2017 while he was assigned to the WTB at Walter Reed National Miltary Medical Center, Wounded Warrior Mentor Lee Miller mentored Michael about the DogTag fellowship, In addition to mentorship from Lee Miller, army veteran Anne Barlieb expressed nothing less than positive vibes about Dog Tag fellowship. This led to Michael’s decision to apply for the fellowship to pursue a new and rewarding experience, to meet people, engage and interact, and learn skills to use in the real world.

His favorite treat is Chocolate Chip Cookies.
