Melissa Staricha

Melissa Staricha is a Pennsylvania native and received a B.A. in Greek and Roman Classics from Temple University in Philadelphia. Melissa’s husband is active-duty in the Air Force, and through their connection to the military, they’ve enjoyed traveling across the United States.

When their most recent move brought them to the DC area, Melissa noticed Dog Tag Bakery on her first excursion to Georgetown. Through Blue Star Families, she learned more about the Dog Tag Fellowship Program and thought it would be a perfect fit for her desire to refresh her professional skills and launch a career. Melissa hopes her time as a Dog Tag Fellow will empower her to successfully reenter the workforce and continue to craft a life she loves.

Melissa loves to bake, so all baked goods are welcome, but her reigning favorite is cake, especially chocolate cake with Swiss meringue buttercream. Her greatest baking achievement to date was a Heaven and Hell cake – alternating layers of Angel food and Devil’s food cakes with layers of peanut butter mousse between, covered in chocolate ganache.
