Army Veteran
Melanie Perry
Melanie Perry is originally from Register, Georgia. In May 2003, she joined the U.S. Army, where she served as a Telecommunications Specialist before transitioning to the role of Healthcare Specialist. After 11 years of service, Melanie was medically retired in October 2014.
Following her retirement, Melanie regularly volunteered at United Service Organizations (USO). She contributed over 1,000 volunteer service hours before pursuing new career opportunities. In May 2026, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Hood College.
Melanie first learned about the Dog Tag Bakery Fellowship through the Wounded Warrior Project. Despite that the mistaken Zoom topic was not, “how to bake your own dog treats,” she still found things very interesting. Unfortunately, the fellowship did not fit her schedule at the time. Later, after completing her degree, she saw a Dog Tag LinkedIn post, that renewed her interest. After learning more about the fellowship and its mission, she decided to apply.
Through Dog Tag, Melanie hopes to gain valuable professional insights, build meaningful business connections, expand her professional network, and create experiences that will last a lifetime.
While ice cream is her favorite indulgence, Melanie also enjoys a good slice of cheesecake or carrot cake.
