Melanie Perry

Maria Lysette Avila Overton was born in San Diego, California, where she lived until high school before moving to Sacramento, California. She earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt. She currently resides in Salem, Oregon. Maria is a military spouse and caregiver to her disabled husband, who served in the United States Navy. She also comes from a proud military family, as her mother served in the United States Navy. Maria first discovered the Dog Tag Inc. Fellowship several years ago while researching professional development opportunities. Inspired by its mission, she continued applying each year and is excited for the opportunity to participate in the program Maria hopes to build greater confidence as a business professional while strengthening her entrepreneurial skills. She aims to develop a strong business plan, improve her public speaking abilities, and gain a deeper understanding of business planning so she can successfully pursue her own ventures while helping others achieve their goals. Maria's favorite dessert is chocolate pecan pie, a Thanksgiving tradition she looks forward to every year. When it comes to baked goods, brownies are her all-time favorite.
