DC Program Manager

Vanessa Chism

Vanessa believes in empowering veterans, military spouses, and caregivers to successfully navigate life, turning adversities into opportunities to thrive. The fellowship program’s focus on helping the military community find renewed purpose and building resilience is what ultimately drew her to work for Dog Tag.

In Vanessa’s role as DC Program Manager, she is committed to ensuring all Fellows receive quality programming. Allowing them the opportunity to be empowered by receiving exceptional entrepreneurial skills while determining their new passion and purpose in life.

Vanessa joins Dog Tag with a wealth of experience in the military community. She has over 7 years of experience working with non-profit Veteran Service Organizations. Vanessa has lived the past 21 years as a military spouse, veteran spouse and caregiver. Providing her with invaluable lived experiences which drive her passion to invoke positive change within this community. She is also an Elizabeth Dole Fellow, advocating for legislative change for the betterment of the military community is truly a passion for her.

Vanessa holds an AA in psychology from Tallahassee State College. She is currently completing her BA in psychology with a minor in biology from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

While not at work, Vanessa likes to spend time with her family on their homestead with all sorts of animals. She loves watching her daughters live out their passion, riding horses in rodeos. She also enjoys reading, creative outlets, baking and traveling the world.

Vanessa’s favorite baked good is a warm chocolate chip cookie.
