Gabriela Hernandez is a constant traveler. She was born in Mexico City to bi-cultural parents, and her youth was split between central Connecticut and Vero Beach, Florida. She completed her BFA at Pratt Institute in 1991, and then moved to Paris to continue her studies in painting. Her passion for the arts brought her Cambridge, where she completed an EdM at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
In 2004, Ms. Hernandez transitioned to New Orleans, where she served as Director of Education for the Louisiana State Museum. She then went on to be a Personal and Family Readiness Trainer for the United States Marine Corps from 2012 to 2018. Through the years, she has traveled across the country training Marines and families for deployment cycles, as well as their health and well-being. It was during this time she met her husband, who served with 4 Marine Division, and ultimately transitioned with him to his final duty station at the Pentagon.
Ms. Hernandez’s sweet tooth brought her to Dog Tag Bakery, upon which she learned about the fellowship program. She applied to the program because the holistic curriculum presents a space for aligning her passion for the arts with entrepreneurialism. She looks forward to participating in the fellowship program because it offers a space for learning where she can dive into her passion of arts education and develop a business plan for progressive arts programming as well as build community with other military spouses and veterans.
Her favorite baked good is a gingerbread cookie!
