Army National Guard Veteran
Ashley Griffin
Ashley Griffin was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. At 18, she enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard. Shortly after joining the military, she deployed in support of OIF. Ashley worked as an automated logistical specialist. She was responsible for ordering, shipping, and distributing aircraft parts for the aircraft mechanics. After returning home, Ashley enrolled at Kennedy King College, receiving a basic certificate in culinary arts and an associate degree in General Studies.
Ashley deployed 2 months after her college graduation in support of OEF. When she returned home for the second time, Ashley enrolled in school at Northeastern Illinois University. It was here that she began taking Inner City Studies classes. She learned about food insecurities and food deserts. She went on to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Ashley started attending Wounded Warrior events in 2023 and it was at one of these events that she heard about Dog Tag. She hopes to gain entrepreneurial skills to be able to open a Wellness Café/Spa in the inner city. She is also looking forward to gaining a new support system with like-minded individuals.
Ashley’s favorite baked good is German chocolate cake.
